Bruises

Bruises occur when a fall or blow causes bleeding into the tissues beneath the
skin.

Treatment

1. Put ice in a plastic bag.
2. Wrap the bag in a towel (applying the ice directly to the skin can cause frostbite).
3. Place it on the bruised area for about 20 minutes.

The cold reduces the blood flow to the area and therefore limits bleeding into the skin
and reduces the size of the bruise.
